Banksy’s Books
If you want to start collecting something a little bit off main track and slightly under the radar of most Banksy collectors look no further than his books.
Banksy to date (February 2020) has only ever published 4 books and they are all fabulous, especially as they are written by him not a narrator and give you some insight into his world and its’s just fun to hear his thoughts about these early pieces and destinations.
He started with a series of 3 Mini-Books and then compiled most of the content from these and more into a Hardback.
Book 1: Banging Your Head against a Brick Wall, Year 2001
Book 2: Existencilism, Year 2002
Book 3: Cut It Out, Year 2004
Book 4: Wall and Piece, 2005
It is not known how many of the mini-books were printed but safe to say as they were self-published and his fame was nothing like it is now there cannot be that many out there, also given the small throw away nature of these books if people bought them it’s likely they would have a quick read and recycle rather than collect, this makes them in our view a great collectable for 3 reasons, it’s a Banksy product authorised by him, it’s a great view of his works and finally there just cannot be that many out there. The Hardback Wall and Piece is slightly different in that it was published as a hardback and then also as a paperback with Banksy adding in his words ‘10% more crap’ in 2006, so the original 2005 book and especially the First Edition with Dust Cover and Postcards is Highly prized.
